So, I went to the optometrists today!

Haha, so first it turns out that it's been three years since my last checkup. In the past it's always been every year or so, and I only got away with that because I've been buying my contact lenses online and they believe you when you tick the little box saying your prescription is no more than two years old.

I decided I was definitely over due for a check up when I a) got a tax refund yay money! and b) noticed that the eyesight in my left eye was definitely blurrier than that in my right. (Well, I noticed when I focused on things in the distance and closed one eye at a time. Which I don't do as a matter of course.)

So, I got all the tests, including the glaucoma air thing, and the yellow dye thing and it turns out that the blurry vision isn't because my prescription has changed --

My prescription hasn't changed in three years THIS IS HUGE THIS HAS NEVER HAPPENED HAVE MY EYES ACTUALLY STOPPED CHANGING WHOOOOO

-- but because of corneal hypoxia (well, the earliest stages at least) which is what happens when I wear contact lenses too often and my corneas don't get enough oxygen so they end up kind of...blurry? I also have slight astigmatism in that eye, but it's still not enough to bother with corrective lenses for, which doesn't help.

Anyway, wearing glasses more often should help solve that problem, and also the fact that apparently my old Acuvue 2 lenses are apparently obsolete and are inferior to the new lenses which let through vast amounts more oxygen. So, I'm trialling a pair with silicon hydro-gel which sounds very space age and also more expensive, and hopefully my eyes will thank me.

I'm also keen to get new glasses made - although, since my old prescription is apparently still fine, I have less of an excuse :-( - and I tried on some frames. So cute! So funky! So expensive! So making a trip to SpecSavers! Granted, the ones in the shop were all designer frames, and since I wear glasses infrequently I don't need anything that fancy. Since my prescription is large enough that I need to get thin lenses (other wise, whoooaaaa, would my glasses be thick) I was looking at the quoted prices and thinking at some point it's cheaper to just pay for LASIK, y'know?

And, since I have had a stable prescription for three years now (DID I MENTION THAT? I DON'T THINK I MENTIONED THAT. IT'S HUGE FOR ME. SRSLY.) I could get an assessment and see how much it would actually cost me! Not that I could get it done since I'm crap at saving, but it's nice to have the option! Exclamation mark!
