I had a big weekend full of exciting events!

Unfortunately one of the exciting events was finding out how much it will cost to repair my car so it passes its WoF. And there is something wrong with the brakes too, but they won't know what until they take them apart. FML.

So, that was my Saturday morning. I did spend the time waiting for the car sitting in a cafe in the sunlight reading and drinking the biggest mocha EVER. And I had bacon. Mmmm, bacon.

From 5pm on Saturday I was at an all-night movie marathon. The movies we saw were, if I remember correctly:
The Breakfast Club
Harold & Maude
The Forbidden Zone
Inside
S&M Hunter
Zero Population Growth
Alternative Three
Undefeatable (Have you seen the clip on youtube of the worst movie fight scene ever? AWESOME.)
The Minis (stopped after twenty minutes because it was SO BAD. Dwarves form a basketball team! Coached by Dennis Rodman!)
Triblation 99
The Lost Boys

I had never seen The Breakfast Club or The Lost Boys, so I am very glad I finally got to see them - I think I've probably missed out on a lot of pop culture references over the years.

Of the other movies, Forbidden Zone was WEIRD, so weird, and had lots of random boobs; Harold and Maude was terribly sweet and its "fuck you our love is AWESOME" vibe was actually something that resonated with me since its something that you get in a lot of slash fic; Inside was an awesomely gory French horror/thriller; S&M Hunter was the sweetest, funniest western-themed Japanese bondage movie I'd ever seen; ZPG is the best sci-fi movie I'd never heard of, definitely worth seeing; Alternative Three, although I lost the last twenty minutes in a doze, was a great '70s British mockumentary and hadn't dated too badly at all; Undefeatable - yes, this the movie from which that great three-minute fight scene that's all over youtube comes from and I enjoyed it SO MUCH. It was so bad! The dialogue! The plot! The fight scenes! Awesome! The Minis - never watch this. Ever. So bad. Tribulation 99 was played to make up time lost from the Minis, and it was like a Scientologist and a Sub Genius had a baby together and raised it on pot and conspiracy theories before letting it loose in a movie archive. Wow. And The Lost Boys really good - sexy and funny and vampires! And awesome soundtrack.

So, yes. I ate too much junkfood (I had onion dip! For the first time in about four months! OMFG so goood!) and three cans of V and four cans of diet coke and forty minutes sleep total, which probably explains why, when I went with <lj user=laputain> for her last soccer game of the season and they were a few players short, I volunteered to make up the numbers, by which I meant, fill up a space on the field somewhere so people who can actually kick the ball can go after it. (I am happy if I aim for the ball and it actually connects.)

So I was quickly hustled into shorts and a shirt and socks and used my own sneakers and spent eighty minutes making myself the new best friend of one of the opposing fowards - I can't tackle (I used to pay netball! I don't want to be closer than three feet to the person with the ball!), I can't run that fast, but by god I could try my best to stay between her and the ball. Which I did! Except then I had to run A LOT and it was really, really hot.

After the game I had a sweet, sweet cold beer. And then I was named Player of the Day (go me!!) which meant I had another beer. And it turns out that when you have slept for only forty mintues and eaten nothing but sugar and a small plateful of after-match food...well, two beers go to your head REALLY REALLY quickly. I was feeling tipsy after one and definitely very happy after two. <lj user=laputain> drove home, obviously, with me singing along really loudly (and probably quite off-key) to my ipod. Yeah, I was feeling gooood.

I crashed at 3.30pm and slept til 9.30pm when I got up to drink more water and I slept through from then til morning. I don't feel too sleep deprived any more, just faintly ill from lack of food (dinner yesterday kind of never happened, breakfast was chocolate mousse and lunch was the aforementioned after-match food). And I am sore. DEAR GOD, am I ever sore. My legs I can understand, but my arms! And my torso! And everything! Going up the stairs at work elicts a litany of "Ow ow ow fuck shit goddamn son of a bitch ow ow ow". Actually, moving in any way causes swearing. I just yawned, and THAT hurt!

I am never, NEVER teasing <lj user=laputain> about her little legs and her post-game pain ever again. Okay, so I totally will. But I'll do it more sympathetically!

The Lost Boys is much, much more fun than it has any right to be. I first watched it when I taught Media Studies to 15 year olds, and had to do a project about it with them (we saw the film! They made posters!)

Also, I'm going to post the comment that my husband should be posting, if he would just check his darn lj- dwarves form a basketball team? Coached by Dennis Rodman? HOW can that movie be anything but AWESOME?! (on second thoughts, don't answer that). Though the two movies I'm more curious about are S&M Hunter and Tribulation 99. I can guess the subject of the first one. I have no idea about the second.

I love 'The Breakfast Club'- as anything by the late great John Hughes. Though my favourite of the Ringwald oeuvre is probably Pretty in Pink- Sixteen Candles is a close second.

Oh, and in case you didn't already, go see 'District 9' for it is made of win.
