Can any Auckland folks recommend a celebrant/person legally entitled to perform marriages? Need to be comfortable performing a secular ceremony, although we're not fussed if their right to marry folks comes through a church or similar.

Alternatively, due to an ancient statute dating back to 1829 which has never been repealed, I am entitled legally to conduct a marriage on any of Her Majesty's vessels, in the event of the death, illness, or incapacitation of the Captain of the vessel, at sea.

As this statute predates the colonisation of NZ, I'm not sure if this applies to HNZRMS vessels. However, if you bring a cricket bat and a strong right arm (or left, if left handed) the temporary incapacitation of the captain of the vessel can doubtless be achieved for a sufficient duration for me to declare you man and wife. It is only necessary that the ceremony, possibly accompanying gagging and restraint of the Captain is he shows signs of recovering (I think Daphne might enjoy doing that bit), should be conducted outside territorial waters.

If it's a serious and almost spiritual event you seek, see the first paragraph. If an event with Penguineans and Talossans from all over the world, most of whom are now respectable and responsible citizens, (but still with a bizarre sense of humour) and other assorted internet freaks, hire a boat.

You probbaly won't remember me - I was involved on and off with Talossa and Penguinea, and squabbled with Daphne a lot. I only look into sites from these days now largely defunct ideological/artistic constructs once in a while, and saw your question. Very much on a basis of "whatetever happened to"?

I took the plunge in early 2009, and haven't been on the internet much since.

I wish you both the best - and as Cassie, my wife, lives on Vancouver Island BC, we've almost neighbours! only about 14000 km and is it 9 or 10 hours time difference? Still, apart from Australia, practically neighbours :-)
