jessikastCan't sleep, sudden panic about my living situation will eat me.
(I'll theoretically find out this Friday if an offer on this house has been accepted or if it's going to stay on the market. And I'm all - what if I have to move? I have SO MUCH STUFF. And bills! I'll have bills to pay! I mean, I got paid today and about 70% of it's already gone out on bills and things and I have another payment going out tonight and then I'll have nearly no money left - which is ridiculous, because I'll have money, and when I was a poor student I would have considered it an amaaaaazing amount, and should I need it I have a credit card and a bank loan available, I have already paid rent and bought enough food to feed myself for weeks, and also I was given a pay rise today which means that I'll be getting a decent amount of back-pay in a fortnight AND I REFUSE TO BE LOGICAL I HAVE STRESSED INSOMNIA-CAUSING FREAKOUTS ABOUT TWICE A YEAR I'M MILKING THIS FOR ALL IT'S WORTH.)
Also work is very, very busy and I need my sleep desperately, which doesn't help. I should point out that although it's only 11pm, I went to bed at 8pm and watched videos until 10pm, where I Turned Off My Light and tried to sleep.
(Omfg, I'm watching the most amazing documentaries right now - BBC's Blue Planet, which is so gorgeous and weird and hagfish, wtf??, and series called Inside Nature's Giants, which does what it says on the box: the first episode features the dissection and autopsy (I know it's not an autopsy if it's not on a human, but) of an elephant (euthanised at a zoo after she became too unwell) and it's kind of gory but SO interesting. The next episode is a whale and the previews featured a woman actually clambering around inside it. SCIENCE, Y'ALL.
hazel (/maudlinrose) gave me this meme to do a few days ago. I literally asked for it, so:
1. Why dogs more than cats?
Dogs have more personality, and I find them more engaging. I'm not saying that cats dont' have personalities, but I don't find them nearly as interesting. Dogs generally want to be with you, they want to respond to what you're doing and they pay attention to you. (Possibly my issues are showing?) You can train a dog to be genuinely useful, and I think I have a better grasp of a dog psyche and how to keep a dog happy. Also, FLOPSY EARS AND WAGGITY TAILS.
2. Do you have a Mary-Sue in your head? If so, what's she like?
Not really. When I was a teenager I certainly did - or at least, I latched onto Mary Sue character in fanfiction. When I think back I have a jumbled memory of kidfics and Sues with Speshul Powers and Sues from Our Universe! and I honestly can't remember which ones I made up and which were fics.
3. Favourite alcoholic beverage and why.
Whisky, because my Dad taught me to drink it and because it makes me feel cultured and superior. Apart from that, it depends on context: I absolutely love cold beer on hot summer days or when I've been working hard; I adore cheap spumante and sickly sweet liquers or mixers when I'm drinking them to excess with my friends (that means you, maudlinrose) etc.
4. If you could study 1 paper of your imagination at university, what would it be?
Since its my imagination, I would arm imaginary me with everything I've since forgotten about languages and then some, and I'd want to study more papers on medieval manuscripts - the stories being told and how we tell them now. If it's my imagination, I would also have the paper being taught about the miraculously discovered stash of Old English manuscripts (including, like, a few more Beowulfs) that have been preserved in a cave somewhere.
5. What are the most uncomfortable pair of shoes you own (that you regularly wear)?
A pair of cute grey "suede" peep-toes from Number One Shoe Warehouse. I seem to wear them on days that I run errands after work and they're fine for just working in, but as soon as I, for example, start walking around a mall? OWOWOW. And then I forget how much they hurt and wear then again. The more fool I!!
