Apr. 15th, 2010 08:14 amI went grocery shopping yesterday for the first time since getting back from holiday, without looking in the fridge or pantry before I went. (It would have been too daunting.) Even though I went on an empty stomach I managed to (mostly) resist the temptations of the snack aisle, except when I bought rice crackers I went for chippie flavours (salt & vinegar, sour cream & chives etc) instead of my usual teriyaki or bbq. Oops?
The seasons must be changing because instead of salad ingredients and bbq meats I found myself buying things for casseroles and soup, and comfort-type frozen meals. (I actually went a little too enthusiastic with frozen things. On returning home I needed to empty out the freezer and reassemble it like a 3-D game of tetris. One which didn't give me encouraging high scores when I completed a row!)
I also tried a chicken-in-a-bag for the first time (since I totally deserved a roast dinner, obvs) and the meat was definitely tender and moist, but it wasn't seasoned quite as much as I like. But that's okay, because I have MASSIVE LEFTOVERS, which mean CHICKEN PIE. (I don't actually have a recipe for such a pie. But I have filo and leeks and chicken and leftover gravy, and it shall be AWESOME.)
And leftovers are good because I need to be frugal after the orgy of shopping I indulged in on Sunday. (omfg, SO GOOD. New handbag! Wallet! Cute cardigan! Batman underpants! I practically needed a cigarette after.)
My boyfriend has very inconsiderately gone and left me for a week (he wants to visit his "family" - whatever!) just at the time of year when it's getting colder and I most need a bed-warmer-with-optional-cuddle-feature. (My flannel pajamas have made an appearance instead.) I kind of miss him ridiculously - I had dinner with laputain the other night and I'm sure I bored her with talking about Alan all. the. time. (Okay, we also spoke about the yummy Mexican food and her own romance, which makes me squee at how CUTE it is - it makes her blush and go bashful! Awwwww!) Oh, well - I'm pretty sure Deeves is happy to have me (and my bed) all to herself again.
Other stuff:
- New Who. LOVING IT! I'm not saying there aren't quibbles, but overall I'm enthusiastic about the new season. (I think Alan either wants to be Matt Smith when he grows up and marry Amy Pond, or vice versa.) (My attitude towards the whole season is probably only slightly affected by the fact I spent the last episode holding a baby bunny. BABY. BUNNY. <33333333 )
- I get my new sofas on Saturday.
- I get the flu vaccination today. Let's hope I don't have a weird reaction and need to spend days lounging about on my new sofas.
- Hallensteins mens pants don't look good on me, even though they are awesome and made of corduroy. :-( I WANT CORDS!
